Novell Technical Update – two day seminar

The TTP are pleased to be able to announce that they have brought together four experienced Novell users to pass on their knowledge to you concerning the interactions and workings of Novell’s latest products. Starting on the 19th June there will be four two day seminars run for the TTP in various locations across the USA. The locations will be announced after BrainShare and will be chosen from the results of the questionnaire asking for advice on the most convenient locations. The event will run from 9 to 5 each day and have two parallel sessions running throughout. The topics to be covered in the event are listed below. The cost of attendance will be $350 per person.

Proposed session titles in no particular order:

(1) Identity Management in Linux, without Identity Manager. Exploit eDirectory with LUM, PAM, LDAP and NSS services to unite user's credentials for most common applications (http, telnet, ssh, ftp, NCP, etc) and offer real privacy.

(2) Virtualization brought down to earth. Look at the nifty XEN support in SUSE Linux and at VMware. Discuss what works well, what needs help (time keeping, NetWare DOS partitions), and what we ought to think about twice.

(3) File systems, which to choose and why. A light weight but technical review of Linux file systems and NSS, plus shadow volumes, with a view of choosing the right kinds for the tasks at hand.

(4) Migration from NetWare to Linux. We discuss several tool sets and several scenarios for movement, including user file store, user credentials, and services.

(5) Patching and updating SUSE Linux. There are successful methods within OES2. We also show how to construct a local patch redistribution center at no extra cost.

(6) Collaboration via the web: The Teaming half of Novell's T&C product plus what we might do similarly with open source services.

(7) Managing chaos. Life in a mixed OS environment.

(8) IT on a shoestring. Ideas to grow and maintain your environment at a minimal cost.

(9) Red-green color blindness. Keeping users in the dark about OES Linux

(10) I didn't know they did that! Novell's portfolio outside NetWare and SUSE.

(11) Data management including iFolder3, NetStorage, File System Factory, backup and migration.

(12) Novell’s road-map – what your management needs to know.

(13) ZENworks Configuration Management - ZCM - Imaging structure and configuration. Making imaging work for you now. Introduction on setup, configuration and management of Imaging. Demonstrations and recommendations along with open discussions.

(14) ZENworks Configuration Management - ZCM - Application setup, management and use. From the ground up, how to set up and use application management to deliver applications network wide. Demonstrations and recommendations along with open discussions.

(15) K-12 real life. How to cope and even be productive in the K-12 environment. Will include E-Rate, donation solicitations and grant submissions.

(16) Google Applications. Are they worth it? How to investigate, find supporters, setup and integrate into your existing network.

(17) Content filtering for K-12 schools the Lightspeed way. Open and frank discussion on real world support using the Lightspeed product.

(18) Using your Windows understanding to learn Linux. We will compare Windows concepts and functionality to the Linux paradigm.

(19) GroupWise Bonsai client. What new features are available in the new release of the GroupWise Client?

(20) GroupWise Bonsai server. What features are available in the new GroupWise Server?

(21) GroupWise Migration from NetWare to Linux -- How do you migrate your existing GroupWise system from NetWare to Linux?

(22) SLED in Education -- How can you implement SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 in your Education environment?

(23) SLES Installation -- Walk through of the steps to installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

(24) Linux Resources -- Where can I find help? What resources are available for you as you being to work with SLES?
