Migrating from NW to OES2/Linux SP3 and
from SPx to SP3 Faithful NetWare is scheduled to
retire to the great machine room in the sky this spring. Now
is the last chance to learn how to migrate to OES2/Linux SP3.
We also discuss how to upgrade to SP3 from earlier service packs.
This is a hands-on course starting with a pre-built NW server
and an empty destination machine. We build SLES 10 SP3 Linux,
add OES2 SP3, and then migrate files, trustees, eDirectory,
iFolder, DNS/DHCP, and iPrint to the new machine while retaining
the old names. We also perform in-place upgrades of OES2 (a
pre-built version is supplied) to the current SP3 level. The
course is squeezed into one full day. Laptops are provided by
Novell. If you wish to take home the VMware virtual machines
remember to bring your own storage devices. |

Enhancing security of OES2/Linux servers
By design, Linux and Unix are intended for friendly users. Alas,
how times change. This one day course uses OES2/Linux SP3 to
demonstrate the various ways by which we may protect the machine
from both network and internal customers. Three important parts
of this will be making IPtables work for us (we design our own
filter), activating Apparmor execution profiles, and asking
Apache to protect us. There are more items to tend though. The
course will provide a pristine OES2/Linux VMware virtual machine
on a Novell laptop. We discuss a security aspect, implement
and test it, review it, and then on to the next. All methods
can be taken home and implemented safely on production servers.
Some familiarity with Linux is required. |

Relocating your GroupWise System Discover
how to migrate GroupWise systems from one machine to another
and what issues to avoid. The course will cover the movement
of GroupWise from one machine to another, be that Netware to
NetWare, to Linux or otherwise. The emphasis is how to relocate,
optimise and enhance the deployment no matter what change in
the systems identity, IP address or domain name. NSS and other
file system optimisation, patching and version upgrades are
also covered. |
