A hands-on course about Migrating from NetWare to OES2/Linux

To be delivered by: Joe Doupnik

This two-day course walks through the process of migrating files, services, and full server identity from NetWare to OES2/Linux. The steps will be carried out by each delegate on a pair of provided machines. The first part of the course will show how to build a proper Linux server from scratch, then adding OES2. In the process we discuss why certain choices are made and how to add a bit of polish to the result. The services involved are iFolder and iPrint, DHCP, FTP.

Each delegate will be assigned two laptops. One will hold a pre-built NetWare 6.5 virtual machine with services and user files. The second will be used to build Linux+OES2 in a VMware virtual machine. Both virtual machines and course materials may be taken home.

The course will be conducted as a combination of open seminar and workshop, where questions and opinions may be discussed in addition to the lab exercises. There will be plenty of slides, yet notes on our discussions will be equally valuable. This is not a replay of Novell's manuals, nor their courses.

Delegates are expected to have some familiarity with Linux, enough to not be frightened by the command line. Deep experience is not required.
